SPRINGVALE- The family-run farm McDougal’s Orchard, located in Springvale, is having its most popular time of the year. They are now in their 8th generation of running the farm and hope it remains sustainable for many more years to come.
Boasting a u-pick apple orchard that is their most popular service, you can buy a half peck (5 pounds) for $12, a peck (10 pounds) for $22.50, or a bushel (20 pounds) for $40. Their veggies, like carrots, are priced at $2.50 per pound.
If you’re looking for something to do with the family, they currently have a pumpkin patch and sorghum maze; they also have things fun for kids, including the fairy village in the woods, and an info shack to learn about the process of growing apples and making cider, and even a donut shack called Capt Jack’s Donuts that runs on the weekends until the end of October.
When asked about how the start of the season went, employee Polly McAdams answered: “The start of our season was the beginning of August, and it started relatively slow, but it’s been good lately!” Let’s give them our support in the weeks to come before winter.
They run from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday through Wednesday, and 9 am to 6 pm Thursday and Friday until the end of the season in late October or early November.
